Warrensburg HS CC program & longtime coach Ron Clawson inducted into MO Sports HOF

The Warrensburg Tigers cross country program joined exclusive company as it and longtime coach Ron Clawson were inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in the annual Springfield enshrinement ceremony on January 31.

The Warrensburg cross country program joins an exclusive company, joining Jefferson City track and field, Berkeley track and field, and West Plains cross country as they only high school cross country or track and field programs to be enshrined in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, which is based in Springfield and has been inducting honorees for almost three decades.

The Warrensburg Boys and Girls cross country program has earned a combined 31 top-4 state finishes and 10 state championships. The Tigers have claimed 20 of those Top-4 finishes and six state titles while the Lady Tigers have garnered 11 top-4 state finishes and four state titles.

Ron Clawson coached cross country for 25 years and track and field for 28 years at Warrensburg. He coached cross country from 1973-1995 and coached track and field from 1973-1998. His teams won eight cross country titles, five for the boys and three for the girls. The Tigers track and field program captured 25 conference championships and 25 district titles during Clawson’s tenure. Clawson’s impact was recognized at the school as the track facility was named in his honor, Ron Clawson Stadium, and an annual track meet, the Ron Clawson Relays are held each Spring at the facility that bears his name.
