Missourians Mike Rodgers and Maurice Mitchell are among the ten athletes named to the initial Team USA 4×100 relay pool for the 2011 World Championships.
Rodgers finished third in the 100 at the USATF Championships last month in Eugene to earn a spot on Team USA in the 100 and a spot in the 4×100 relay pool. Mitchell finished fourth in the 200 at the USATF Championships and was selected to the initial relay pool by the World Championships coaching staff. Rodgers and Mitchell will train and compete with the relay pool in Italy on July 19th. The list of ten athletes will be cut down to six and on August 6th, USATF will submit their final roster for the World Championships. That six will come from the top four finishers from nationals as well as two others not on the team in other events. So Maurice Mitchell will be vying for one of those two spots. It’s not clear whether Mitchell will be on the roster as a 200 alternate whether he makes the 4×100 pool of six or not.
